Yellow Bird Pattern
Beware china sold as "N&W Yellow Bird pattern" that lacks the maroon band - this is NOT Norfolk & Western Ry. china. Shenango and Syracuse (O.P. Co.) used the exact same bird decal on several patterns of china - only those pieces with the maroon outer band are authentic N&W dining car china. A good number of scammers are out there trying to claim that any china with that bird logo is N&W china - don't be their next victim. The band might be wide (early) or less wide (later or smaller items) but it is that maroon band that identifies the china as railroad china. Syracuse made a version with a very narrow maroon stripe that predates use by the N&W and is also NOT railroad china - N&W Yellow Bird china was made / used in the 1940's and '50's, the Syracuse version was made in the 1930's and early '40's.
