The Pere Marquette Ry.provided railcar / passenger ferry service between Ludington, Mi. and Milwaukee, Wi., Manitowoc, Wi. and Kewaunee, Wi. During the mid-1940's, they had at least six ships on operation.
Ferry service began in 1897. After many years of the company operating under the control of the Chesapeake & Ohio, it was formally merged in 1947, which continued the operation into the mid-1970's.
